The Honourable David C. Onley, O.Ont, demonstrated his keen interest in history by paying a visit to Fort William Historical Park, August 26th.

The Lieutenant Governor was on a two-day visit to Thunder Bay. His Honour had journeyed to the city to unveil a commemorative plaque at the former site of the Port Arthur Isolation Hospital in honour of the Thunder Bay & District Post-Polio Chapter.

However, amidst various meetings and functions, His Honour managed to take time out of his busy itinerary to pay a visit to the Fort, accompanied by the Mayor of Thunder Bay, Lynn Peterson.

During his tour, His Honour was presented with a handcrafted brass lantern bearing the Lieutenant Governor‘s Coat of Arms produced by tinsmith Joe Winterburn. His Honour also participated in the christening of a birch back canoe which was also adorned with the Lieutenant Governor's Coat of Arms on the vessel's bow, constructed by canoe builder Dave Brown.

Later that evening, the Lieutenant Governor addressed a reception held in McGillivray's Landing banquet room in the Fort's Visitor Centre.
