Hear Ojibwa stories and songs, participate in a traditional smudge ceremony and sample bannock. Grand ArrivalStage a canoe arrival for your VIP guests. Select up to 10 paddlers for your brigade. Fort William Historical Park will supply the governail and avant to steer your replica canoe. Also supplied are personal flotation devices and paddles for the entire brigade. Heritage Craft WorkshopsSpend and afternoon or full day with the Fort's talented artisans, learn heritage craft techniques and take home a timeless memoir. (Link to Artisan Workshops) GPS Treasure HuntGeoCaching is essentially a high tech treasure hunt using GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to discover hidden caches of cultural and historical information. Teams armed with GPS units set off on a quest to locate Scavenger Hunt stations throughout the Fort and answer clue questions - don't be fooled by the decoys! Voyageur GamesA complete fun-filled, team event with multiple stations and competitions earning points and concluding with an awards ceremony. Activities may include relay races, canoe races, axe throwing, caber toss, shinny, fire lighting, and other exciting challenges. Muskets & CannonsHave yourself a blast from the Past! Fire authentic muskets & cannons to hone military and battle skills. Learn about the types of firearms and cannon used in the Canadian Fur Trade and during the War of 1812 and how they would have been used to defend a small frontier trading post like Fort William. CanoeingPaddle down the Kaministiquia River in our enormous 36-foot voyageur canoes. This is your chance to experience the most important aspect of voyageur's life in the fur trade. Learn about the importance of the Kaministiquia River in the continental trading network, and even learn a voyageur paddling song. No portaging necessary! LacrossePlay an exciting game of lacrosse - a fun and fast paced sport that keeps players on their toes. Nature HikeEnjoying refreshing trail walks in Northwestern Ontario's pristine woods and forests with one of our knowledgeable guides. Learn to identify wild plants and acquire new knowledge about edible, medicinal, and their uses of plants among the Ojibwa people. DancingVoyageurs and fur traders alike were known for their love of dancing! Fur trade journals describe balls in the Great Hall, with dancing "kept up till daylight". Join us in a dance workshop, and learn early Canadian dances such as Canadian Lancers, Soldier's Joy and La Queue du Loup. SnowshoeingTrek through the peaceful snowy wilderness with one of our friendly and knowledgeable guides. SingingLearn traditional campfire and voyageur songs and enjoy other rousing 19th- century entertainments. |
