We've been developing our campground over the past few years and it's grown into something we're sure you'll like! So bring your family along with your tents or RV and enjoy an exciting night of family fun and entertainment!

Fort William offers many great options for campers such as FREE wi-fi, canoe and kayak rentals, or old favorites such as chatting around a bonfire or simply roasting a few marshmallows over the fire. Relax and enjoy yourselves at the World's Largest Fur Trade Post.

There’s more.  Enjoy full-service RV camping.  Nightly fees are $25.00 for non-serviced sites and $35.00 for serviced sites (plus HST). Serviced campsites include 20/30 amp and 50-amp capability with direct water hook-up.  Amenities include fresh water access, toilets and showers, and refuse.

Other complimentary components include shaded picnic areas with tables, and paved wheelchair-accessible paths.  The Fort William Trading Post in the Visitor Centre provides goods and services, featuring souvenirs, gifts, pop, water, and ice sales.

Let Your Journey To The Stars Begin!

Whether you’re an experienced astronomer or a casual observer, you’ll find that the David Thompson Astronomical Observatory (DTAO) is a marvel of modern space science. Come and explore galaxies, nebulas, star clusters, planets and meteorites like never before. And we're located just minutes away from home!

Joining us for a Star Walk?

Dress warm - we do spend time outside! Tonight the temperature will be 0 C.

 Updated: Friday, April 18, 2014
4:00pm
THE OBSERVATORY IS CLOSED TONIGHT - FRIDAY APRIL 18

Tonight's Viewing Conditions

Current viewing conditions are updated at 4:00pm and 7:00pm every Thursday to Saturday to reflect program content.

Tonight's sky will be overcast with continued snowfall. If the sky clears (it is not looking likely), we will conduct a workshop with our 8" Dobsonian telescopes and teach visitors how to find Jupiter and Orion. We will also conduct deep space imaging with out large 20" telescope.  If there are clouds at Fort William Historical Park, we will access an identical telescope in the Canary Islands to image galaxies, nebulas and more. We will also offer experiences with our new interactive exhibits, virtual reality system and more! The current condition in the Canary Islands is light clouds that may turn to overcast.
